Everyone’s fitness journey is different, some focus on weight loss, some focus on getting leaner or fitter, and then there are the stories that really touch the heart and leave you feeling #inspired.
This story is one of them….
In 2014, FNF Forest Hill member Michael Mahoney suffered from renal failure, resulting in the need for a full kidney and pancreas transplant. He underwent this operation in 2017.
Determined to move forward Michael kept getting thrown setbacks. His diabetes worsened which resulted him to become partially blind, he suffered a stroke and was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease.
Although Michael has endured quite a lot, what’s most inspiring is that he has never given up on himself. Michael’s determination saw him set a number of goals; one being able to support himself on his feet, another being able to walk without any support. As the motivated and hard working man he is, Michael has been able to successfully achieve these goals. He also thanks the support of his friends, family and FNF Personal Trainer Stephen.
Our Forest Hill staff share that Michael is an incredible man who always has a smile on his face when he enters the club. They are truly amazed and inspired to see how far he has come, and can only see him achieving bigger and better things.
On September 8th 2019, Michael set another milestone and took part in Kidney Australia’s Big Red Kidney Walk – another goal he was determined to achieve.
The walk was 3.8km long which Michael successfully completed, and he even walked the last 100km completely on his own! Overall, Michael’s team raised a remarkable $2,733 for the day, with the final total coming to $330,00 for the whole event!
It goes without saying that Michael could not have done this without the support of his friends and family on the day, including his PT Stephen who was there with Michael every step of the way.
We are so proud of the hard work and determination Michael has given, not only for the Big Red Kidney walk, but for the last 2 years. His journey continues to amaze us, and we cannot wait to see what other great things he conquers.
