Walking vs running whats better?
The age-old debate…what’s better, walking or running? Many think that because walkers aren’t as sweaty or puffed out at the end of their walk, that they haven’t burned as many calories as the runners who come back covered in sweat and full of energy. But, if both are working out based on distance, they’re burning roughly the same amount of calories; calories burnt is not dependent upon how much sweat is produced ;-) So, if both methods burn approximately the same amount of calories, what are their advantages? Running Advantages: - It increases your heart rate, making you expend a lot of energy - Great way to burn calories fast if you have limited time - You can travel distances faster, burning calories quick, having more free time for hobbies/work/social life - Great for those who are competitve Walking Advantages: - Produces less stress to your body if you have aches and pains in your joints; every step you take while running is triple the impact if you were walking - For those who are overweight or have a cardiovascular condition, it’s exercise at low risk - You can lose the calories at a leisurely rate Even though both have their advantages, you need to realize that it’s the distance travelled that determines how many calories you lose. Getting exercise is the best thing that you can do for yourself. If you love to run, then go for a run. If you love to walk, then go for a walk. Just remember: It’s the distance that counts.
